Conversations With Bubby- All About Food

As I have mentioned on FB Page, Bubby and CJ are out of town visiting with their grandpa.  I haven't talked to him much while he's been gone. I text everyday and all seems to be going well, so I have left well alone. One thing I was telling Hubby about earlier today was that I don't miss all the food questions all day. Mostly in the form of when do I get to eat bacon?
The questions usually look something like this:

"Can I have bacon for breakfast?"
"Can I have just bacon for breakfast?"( The answer is always no.)
"Can I have the leftover bacon for a snack/supper?" (here too)
"Who is going to eat the leftover bacon?"
"Why can't we have bacon everyday?"

Literally, this is the questions I hear everyday.   So, it was no surprise that tonight his main questions were about meal planning. Though, I did find it a bit surprising that he didn't talk about bacon once. It went like this:

Him: What do you think we should do when I get home?
Me: I don't know. What do you think we should do?
Him: I think we should go out for pizza to celebrate me being home.
Me: Well, we will have to ask dad and grandpa about that. Maybe.
Him: What did you have for supper?
Me: Me and dad had sub sandwiches and salads and Beans had pizza and cucumber with olives.
Him: I'm glad I wasn't there for sub sandwiches. We had Sonic for lunch. (He then tells me in detail what everybody ate) For breakfast we had these twisted doughnuts. It was good. (Doughnuts aren't allowed for breakfast here unless it's a special occasion.)

This kid is all of 59 pounds at the age of 10 1/2.  You'd think he was huge with his obsession with food, but he is just the opposite. I think food is sort of an anxiety for him. He is always worried that there is going to be something served that he won't like and somehow that will be just a catastrophe for him, even though I never make him eat food he hates, or go without.  He asks me everyday as soon as he sees me after school what we're having for dinner. During the summer, he asks as soon as lunch is done.  He studies the school lunch menu like it's of the utmost importance. At the end of the school year last year they had chicken nuggets on an unspecified day. I had sent him with a lunch not knowing about the nuggets. He had such a meltdown that they let him eat a school lunch.

He is just so funny sometimes with his little quirks. They are what makes him him. :-)

  2. I wish my son paid a little more interest in meal planning. It's one of the things we are working on with him. To actually make choices for his meals at school. He does, but needs a lot of prompting.

  3. Yay! No bacon talk! Lol!

Food is such an issue here on multiple levels.

Daniel is driving me batty with his food questions. He needs to know what I am making for everyone else too. He doesn't eat it, but has to smell it and know what it is and why were are eating it.

He has been trying to convince me to let him eat bagels and cream cheese for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I had to cave on a few days and give it to him for breakfast and lunch, but I used the whole compromise scheme. "You eat your peach yogurt, and I will let you have a bagel and cream cheese again." Peach yogurt is yogurt, fruit, and sweet potato puree or squash puree. He does not know that though. Shh! :-)

    1. I've had the bagel and cream cheese fight here too with Bubby. It wouldn't be so bad, but he won't eat the whole wheat bagels. There's not much nutrition in white bread. I tried to get him to put peanut butter on it and he says" That is disgusting! Who does that!?" I told him his father eats them that way and he was thoroughly grossed out! lol

  4. Thank you for your blog. I came across your blog in search of information about children with Autism and Aspergers - trying as a teacher to understand a parents point of view. I am after answers of my own - if you time can you respond to a question I currently have on my blog?
    thank you again for sharing.

    1. I will be happy to share your blog entry on my FB page. Us autism moms are super thrilled to see any teacher try to understand our kids. :) It literally is what makes or breaks the whole entire school year. It's awesome that you are using so much of your own time to try to understand!

  5. According to the hubby and the boys Bacon is man chocolate! They could eat it every day. Just the bacon! We love pizza. We love donuts and what's with you and the food posts lately. We have fun with food. We change it up. We eat healthy then we eat junky. Why not! I believe in life is too short why not eat cake! Every so often why not mix it up a bit. Have breakfast for diner. You sound like you have some fun with meal time too. Subs are a great meal choice for families on the go. My men don't really care what's made as long as we eat what they like. The problem is the boys don't eat the same things. I often make two meals. I have to offer many healthy choices. But I always make room for fun. You can't be too boring at my house or there would be a revolt.

  6. I would believe the bacon= chocolate for men! My hubby doesn't care all that much for it, but my boys would eat it for every meal if I let him. I took the cutest video the other day of Beans getting all excited while watching Spongebob. I can't get it off of my daughter's phone. It keeps failing to send. Anyway, while I was shooting it, Bubby is behind me asking about when he was going to eat the bacon in the fridge. All I could think was, 'wow, this is a pretty accurate representation of my life right here.' lol
